Apollo, PA Company President named Community Champion by United Way of Westmoreland County

Apollo, PA- For 20 years, McCutcheon Enterprises, Inc.’s (MEI’s) President, Calvin McCutcheon has quietly served on the board of directors for the United Way of Westmoreland County (UWWC). Calvin has routinely donated his time and money without acknowledgement or recognition, and if you ask him, that is just fine with Mr. McCutcheon. On Wednesday night, however, the United Way of Westmoreland County (UWWC) paid tribute to Calvin’s efforts by naming him their 2012 Community Champion.

He prefers to be a silent worker in the community, making it a better place for all to live. Calvin is a member of both the United Way Leaders group and the De Tocqueville Society of United Way givers. Both mean that Calvin provides a substantial amount of time and resources to the United Way. Calvin began his tenure on the United Way board in 1993, before the United Way merger occurred when it was known as the United Way of the Kiski Valley. Since April 1993, Calvin has served as board Chairman, Treasurer, as Chair of the Day of Caring, served on the finance committee, and the on the executive committee of Community Impact.

It is due to this hard work and dedication, that Calvin was honored as the 2012 United Way of Westmoreland County Community Champion. Bobbi Watt Geer, President & CEO of UWWC, sums it up this way: “I have worked with nonprofit organizations through my 25 year career and relied heavily on the support, guidance and wisdom of many committed volunteers, and I can tell you that Calvin is one who has given, advocated and volunteered throughout his life in his uniquely humble manner.  I am very pleased to present the Community Champion award to him.”

Calvin McCutcheon in his award speech recommended to everyone in the room that they take the opportunity to serve their communities. “I remember in 1993 when my dad said to me, son, you need to get involved in your community and the United Way is a great community organization, I signed up to help that very week and haven’t stopped for twenty years,” McCutcheon said. “It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as long as I have but I could not have done so without the help of United Way donors and volunteers like you,” McCutcheon told the crowd of UWWC Leadership givers. “At the end of the day, I’m honored to be recognized and just glad I could help,” McCutcheon concluded.
